Vessels of Honor Conference

The Challenge

Many pastors’ wives in rural areas struggle with low self-esteem and a sense of isolation. Carrying the weight of ministry often leaves them feeling forgotten and disadvantaged, as if they are "doing life alone."

Our Solution

Spiritual and Practical Empowerment - To address these challenges, Supporting Hands For the Forgotten created an annual Vessels of Honor Conference. These residential retreats provide a safe space for spiritual growth and practical skill-building.

Participants Engage In

  • Mentorship: Sharing testimonies and challenges with urban facilitators who are also pastors' wives.

  • Spiritual Care: Deep Bible study, collective prayer, and professional counseling.

  • Skills Training: To ensure long-term sustainability, vocational training is provided in poultry and pig farming, mushroom/vegetable growing, tailoring, baking, and making soap, petroleum jelly, and shoes. These skills empower women to earn a dignified living and improve their household standards and the community at large.

Restoring Honor Through Mass Weddings

Celebration of Love

This initiative originated from a request by pastors' wives in rural Uganda who expressed a sincere desire to formalize their marriages. In many African communities, an official wedding is a vital symbol of honor and dignity.

During our 2023 conference, many pastors’ wives shared a heavy burden: they felt limited in their ability to mentor young women because they had never been officially married due to financial constraints.

By getting married, these women seek to align their lives with their faith, thereby restoring their dignity in ministry. Their commitment serves as a powerful example to other couples within their church and the wider community, demonstrating the importance of following God's will.

Our Involvement

Supporting Hands For the Forgotten maintains a collection of wedding gowns to keep costs low, while the brides keep their reception dresses and accessories as a permanent gift.

Every couple also receives individual "Dignity Gifts" like perfume, undergarments, hygiene products and (household essentials) like plates, cups, glasses, etc. together as a couple.

For just $50 per couple, we provide a full wedding experience. This includes legal fees, bridal accessories (shoes, purses, jewelry, and a reception dress), a joint reception with food for relatives, and a bridal cake.

Eligibility & Integrity

To ensure these funds serve those in greatest need, we follow strict guidelines.

A couple must:

  1. Be a pastor and his wife serving in the community.

  2. Have lived together for at least 5 years (some have waited over 25 years!).

  3. Provide proof that financial hardship is the only barrier to their marriage.

Milestones

  • 2024 (Tororo): Launched the program with 8 couples.

  • 2025 (Rakai): Celebrated the union of 20 couples in a single day.
